Hard Sauce

With Chocolate Steamed Pudding


2/3 cupsoftened butter
2cupssifted icing sugar
1tspvanilla

Cream butter. Beat in sugar gradually. Beat in vanilla, drop by drop. If the sauce separates, add 1 tsp boiling water drop by drop. (Note that family tradition insists on dumping the vanilla in all at once. Separation has been observed only once in practice.)

Chill thoroughly. Serve cold with hot Chocolate Steamed Pudding.
