Standard Tools


We assume you have a set of standard kitchen tools:

Mixing and Food Preparation Tools

  • measuring spoons
  • measuring cups
    • at least one 2-cup heatproof glass measuring cup
  • a set of mixing bowls
  • chopping board
  • colander or strainer
  • sieve or sifter
  • egg beater / hand mixer / table mixer
  • utensils:
    • wooden spoon
    • rubber spatula
    • whisk
    • variety of sizes of sharp knives
    • vegetable peeler
    • pastry brush

Cooking Tools

  • small and medium/large covered saucepans
  • a frying pan with a lid
  • cookie sheets
  • cake pans
    • square (both 8x8 and 9x9 are good)
    • rectangular (9x11 or 9x12 or 9x13)
    • round (a set of at least 2 8" and 9" pans, depending on what cake you want to make)
  • 12-cup muffin pan
  • pie pan
  • toaster
  • utensils:
    • masher
    • spatula (compatible with your frying pan)
    • bulb baster (for large roasts where the pastry brush really doesn't cut it)
    • meat thermometer

Serving Tools

  • plates, bowls, glasses, mugs, silverware, steak knives
  • large enough plate to serve as a platter
  • utensils:
    • ladle
    • serving spoons
