Rosie's recipe

1/2 cupsoftened butter
1/2 cupshortening
1cupraisins
1cupchopped dates
1/2 cupchopped nuts
1 1/2 cupsbrown sugar
3beaten eggs
2cupssifted flour
1tspbaking powder
1/2 tspbaking soda
1/2 tspsalt
1tspcinnamon
1/2 tspnutmeg
1/4 tspcloves

Verbatim from the notecard: "Mix as usual"

If you need a little more detail:

Cream butter and shortening together (or use all butter). Add sugar, then eggs. Sift dry ingredients together and add to egg mixture. Stir in raisins, dates and nuts.

Chill 1/2 to 1 hour, then drop by spoonfuls (usually large spoonfuls in our house) on a greased cookie sheet. Chilling the dough makes it a little stiffer, since it's naturally pretty goopy.

Bake for 8-10 minutes at 375°F. May make around 4-5 dozen, depending on size.
